Nasal prostheses are most commonly needed by patients who have undergone rhinectomy (surgical removal of the nose) for the treatment of skin cancer, particularly basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma that has invaded the nasal structures. They are also used for patients who have experienced traumatic loss of the nose or who were born with nasal aplasia (absence of the nose).
