Specialized restorative care

Maxillofacial Prosthetics

Restoring form, function, and confidence for patients who have experienced facial or oral tissue loss due to cancer, trauma, or congenital conditions — under the care of Dr. Min S. Kim, one of the Pacific Northwest's few credentialed Maxillofacial Prosthetist/Denturists.

Highly specialized care for complex needs

Maxillofacial prosthetics is a specialized field of dentistry focused on rehabilitating patients who have lost facial or oral structures — including the palate, nose, ear, orbit (eye socket), or portions of the jaw — due to cancer surgery, radiation, trauma, or birth differences. These prostheses restore both function (speech, swallowing, chewing) and appearance.

Dr. Min S. Kim is a Maxillofacial Prosthetist/Denturist with advanced training from King's College London and over 40,000 patients treated. This rare combination of expertise means patients receive comprehensive, coordinated care — from surgical planning through final prosthetic delivery — at our clinics in Federal Way, Bonney Lake, and Kent.

Prostheses we provide

Obturators

Custom prostheses that close defects in the palate (roof of the mouth) caused by cancer surgery or cleft conditions, restoring speech clarity and the ability to eat and drink normally.

Nasal prostheses

Realistic, custom-fabricated prosthetic noses for patients who have undergone rhinectomy or experienced traumatic nasal loss, matched precisely to the patient's skin tone and facial anatomy.

Orbital prostheses

Prosthetic eyes and orbital restorations for patients who have had an eye or orbital contents removed, crafted to closely match the remaining eye in color, size, and iris detail.

Auricular (ear) prostheses

Custom prosthetic ears for patients with congenital microtia or those who have experienced traumatic or surgical ear loss, fabricated from medical-grade silicone for a lifelike result.

Mandibular resection prostheses

Prosthetic devices that restore jaw function and facial contour following partial or full mandibular resection, helping patients regain the ability to chew, speak, and swallow.

Surgical stents & radiation carriers

Precision-fabricated devices used during cancer surgery and radiation therapy to protect healthy tissue, guide surgical margins, and deliver localized radiation treatment accurately.

Your care journey

01

Consultation & assessment

Dr. Kim meets with you to understand your medical history, the nature and extent of tissue loss, and your functional and aesthetic goals. Coordination with your surgical or oncology team begins at this stage if needed.

02

Impressions & measurements

Precise impressions, photographs, and measurements are taken to capture the defect site and surrounding anatomy. For facial prostheses, color matching to your skin tone is performed at this appointment.

03

Prosthesis fabrication

Your prosthesis is custom-fabricated in our on-site lab using medical-grade materials. Dr. Kim oversees every stage of fabrication to ensure accuracy, durability, and a lifelike result.

04

Try-in & refinement

A trial fitting allows Dr. Kim to assess fit, function, and aesthetics before final completion. Adjustments are made until both you and Dr. Kim are satisfied with the result.

05

Delivery & ongoing care

Your finished prosthesis is delivered with detailed care instructions. Follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor fit, function, and tissue health over time.
