Microtia and Auricular (Ear) Prosthetics near Seattle, Tacoma

Dr. Min S. Kim at Comfy Denture & Hearing Clinic crafts custom auricular (ear) prostheses for patients with microtia and other ear conditions near Seattle and Tacoma.

Microtia is a congenital condition in which the outer ear (auricle) is underdeveloped or absent. It affects approximately one in every 6,000 to 12,000 births and can occur on one or both sides. For patients with microtia and their families near Seattle and Tacoma, Dr. Min S. Kim at Comfy Denture & Hearing Clinic offers custom auricular prostheses that restore a natural ear appearance.

An auricular prosthesis is a custom-crafted artificial ear made from medical-grade silicone. Dr. Kim sculpts each prosthesis to match the patient's other ear in size, shape, and detail. The prosthesis is then hand-painted to match the patient's skin tone, including subtle variations in color and texture that make it virtually indistinguishable from a natural ear.

Auricular prostheses can be retained using medical-grade adhesive or, for a more permanent solution, anchored to osseointegrated implants placed in the skull. Implant-retained prostheses offer superior stability and eliminate the need for daily adhesive application.

Beyond microtia, auricular prostheses are also used for patients who have lost an ear due to cancer surgery, trauma, or other conditions. Dr. Kim works with patients of all ages and backgrounds, providing compassionate, expert care throughout the prosthetic process.
